Volunteering with a Purpose
Volunteering enriches both the giver and the receiver. Each month, over 100 volunteers extend a helping hand and a caring heart through our HLC Volunteer Program.
To be a HLC volunteer, you must:
- Be at least 11 years old
- Complete a background check successfully (if over 18 years of age)
- Complete an application
- Complete an interview
- Provide references
- Complete our volunteer orientation
- Allow a Tuberculosis (TB) skin test
Serve as a HLC Volunteer
Group Activity Assistant: assist staff or other volunteers in group or one-on-one activities with residents.
Maintenance Assistant: work with the Grounds or Maintenance staff on yard work, building repair and upkeep, and room setup.
Laundry Helper: fold sheets, spreads, and other items; transport barrels of dirty linens to the laundry area; deliver clean supplies to storage cupboards.
Personal Services Assistant: work with a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) to provide assistance to Halstad Living Center residents who need help with basic, personal care (except duties that require certification). May also provide one-on-one social interaction, fingernail painting, bed making, and food and beverage service with additional training.
Pastoral Services Assistant: assist with Sunday worship services, lead music, play piano, conduct one-on-one visits with residents, read, pray, assist with Bible studies and singing events, sit with residents through the dying process (additional special training provided).
